Peabody, Massachusetts ranks as US’s hottest ZIP code in 2026
Homes in Peabody spent 20 days on the market in the first half of 2026, versus 57 days nationally, and the median price is around $600,000.
Realtor.com’s 2026 Hottest ZIP Codes report names Peabody, Massachusetts, ZIP code 01960 as the hottest ZIP code in the United States, even as the broader housing market shows signs of sluggishness. The report highlights how competition in certain areas remains intense, with homes selling well above listing price in the top-ranked community.
According to the report, Peabody is about 20 miles from downtown Boston with highway access and proximity to major employers, a combination it says helped drive demand. Homes in the ZIP code spent about 20 days on the market in the first half of the year, compared with 57 days at a national level.
The median home price in Peabody is about $600,000, and it reached $667,000 in June, Realtor.com data shows. The story also includes an account from buyers who, after extensive house-hunting and multiple bids, said they needed to offer at least $50,000 over asking to be competitive, before finding a home for $751,000.
Peabody’s top ranking is its first “hottest” designation in the report, though it previously appeared in the top 10 in 2018 and 2021. This year’s runner-up ZIP code is 07042 in Montclair, New Jersey, followed by 08080 in Sewell, New Jersey, with each market also showing relatively fast home sales compared with the national pace.
