Quantum computing startups set earnings tests for investor appetite

Quantinuum is scheduled to report Tuesday after the market close, while Infleqtion follows Wednesday after its February SPAC merger, giving investors fresh signals on demand for quantum computing exposure.

Stocks were choppy in early trading as investors weighed reports on Middle East peace talks and watched for potential swings in oil prices, which were subdued in the first hour, according to a Yahoo Finance market check at 11:00 a.m. ET. On the sector front, industrial stocks led the major S&P 500 sectors higher, while consumer staples lagged. In tech, semiconductor hardware names continued to rally, and Oracle, Broadcom, Cerebras, Blackstone, and SolarEdge were among the most viewed stocks on Yahoo Finance that morning.

In parallel, the market is turning its focus to two newly public quantum computing companies that are preparing to report earnings. Quantinuum, which spun out from Honeywell in 2021 and debuted publicly in June, is set to open its books for the first time as a public company Tuesday after the market close.

Infleqtion, which went public in February via a SPAC merger, reports on Wednesday. Yahoo Finance notes that quantum computing aims to handle more complex calculations than classical computers, and the earnings results are expected to help gauge investor appetite for the technology as competition intensifies among quantum pure plays and large tech and research-backed players.
