Trump administration targets September CLARITY vote for crypto market rules

A mid-September cloture vote would require 60 votes to advance the CLARITY Act toward a final chamber vote.

The White House, through top crypto policy official Patrick Witt, said the Trump administration intends to keep negotiating with Democrats as the Senate prepares for a September vote on the CLARITY Act, after delaying action until after its August recess, according to Cointelegraph.

Cointelegraph reports the Senate is expected to hold a cloture vote in mid-September, a procedural step requiring 60 votes to move the bill toward a final vote.

The CLARITY Act would create a federal market structure for digital assets, including rules defining when crypto tokens fall under securities or commodities laws and how trading platforms would be regulated.

Disagreements remain, including unresolved Democratic demands for stricter ethics provisions aimed at Trump-linked crypto interests, and banking industry pushes for changes that could affect rules allowing companies to pay rewards to stablecoin holders, Cointelegraph said.
