Bitwise cuts 14% of staff amid crypto market downturn

The cut reduced Bitwise headcount from about 180 to 155, and the Bitwise 10 Crypto Index Fund has fallen more than 30% since January.

Crypto asset manager Bitwise has cut 14% of its staff as the company cited a crypto market downturn, reducing its San Francisco-headquartered workforce from about 180 to 155 people, according to Cointelegraph.

A Bitwise spokesperson told Cointelegraph the layoffs involved about 25 employees, and the move follows similar workforce reductions announced in 2026 by other crypto-focused firms including Robinhood, Polygon, and Pump.fun.

Cointelegraph also noted that Bitwise chief executive Hunter Horsley said the firm still expects growth as crypto further integrates into the global economy.

The report added that Bitwise acquired Chorus One in February to expand its staking services, and that since January shares of the Bitwise 10 Crypto Index Fund (BITW) have fallen by more than 30%.
