eToro sees July crypto trade activity fall 73% as it buys TradeZero
In July, average crypto investment per trade halved to $182, even as eToro reported higher GAAP net income and moved to acquire a US active stock brokerage with up to $231 million consideration.
eToro said its users executed 1.4 million crypto trades in July, down 73% from a year earlier, while the average amount invested per trade fell by half to $182, according to CryptoSlate.
Alongside the crypto decline, eToro reported that net contribution rose 9% to $229 million in the second quarter, GAAP net income increased 77% to $53 million, and management said equity trading strength helped offset weaker crypto contribution.
CryptoSlate also highlighted accounting nuances in eToro’s crypto results, noting eToro reported $1.346 billion of cryptoasset revenue in the second quarter, but that figure was a gross measure. Based on the company’s related crypto cost and net trading income from cryptoasset derivatives, CryptoSlate estimated approximately $12.5 million of net trading contribution from cryptoassets, before operating overhead.
eToro also agreed to pay up to $231 million for TradeZero, a US-focused brokerage serving active stock traders, with consideration payable in cash and up to 2.5 million new Class A shares. The company expects the transaction to add to adjusted earnings per share in the first year after completion, and said it is targeting a close in the first half of 2027, subject to regulatory approvals and customary conditions.
