Iran says no progress on reviving interim US deal

Talks to revive Iran and the US interim accord agreed in June have stalled, while the Strait of Hormuz dispute and related shipping disruptions continue.

The United States and Iran remain at odds over efforts to reach a permanent end to the Middle East war, Reuters reported Wednesday, with an Iranian senior source saying there has been no progress in talks to revive the interim deal agreed in June.

The source also said the sides have not defined a timeline for implementing that interim agreement. US President Donald Trump, meanwhile, said Washington has “total control” of the Strait of Hormuz, a claim Iran rejected by saying the waterway remains blocked.

Reuters also said US Central Command continued operational pressure on Tehran, including a port blockade that forced dozens of ships to change course as fighter jets stepped up operations from the USS George H.W. Bush in the region.

Separately, the US said it fired missiles at a container ship that allegedly tried to breach Washington’s blockade of Iranian ports in the Gulf of Oman, while Iran-backed Houthi rebels killed six people aboard a cargo ship in the Bab el-Mandeb Strait on Tuesday. At the time of writing, West Texas Intermediate was up 0.11% to $82.90.
