Wintermute plans up to $1B AI, high-frequency trading push
The firm’s CEO said its non-crypto activity would rise to more than 50% of business by end-2027, up from 10% now.
Crypto market maker Wintermute is reportedly planning a major expansion into AI infrastructure and high-frequency trading, with an investment budget of up to $1 billion over the next five years, according to Cointelegraph citing Bloomberg.
The plan includes scaling up Wintermute’s non-crypto business so it accounts for more than 50% of the company’s activity by the end of 2027, compared with about 10% currently, Wintermute CEO Evgeny Gaevoy said.
Cointelegraph reports that Wintermute also plans to double the headcount in its 17-person New York office next year and expand its global staff by about 40%.
The move comes as other crypto-native firms expand into traditional finance, with Cointelegraph noting that crypto exchanges including Coinbase, Binance, and Kraken have launched tokenized stock offerings, while regulators and major exchanges have pursued tokenized market pilots.
