CFTC plans Aug. 20 meeting on crypto rules amid stalled legislation
The CFTC said the Aug. 20 Innovation Advisory Committee agenda will examine regulatory steps that could complement the Digital Asset Market Clarity, or CLARITY, Act.
The US Commodity Futures Trading Commission will hold a meeting of its Innovation Advisory Committee on Aug. 20 to advise on policy issues including how cryptocurrency regulation might proceed without new congressional legislation, Cointelegraph reports.
In a notice issued Thursday, the CFTC said the discussion will cover regulation for crypto assets, as well as artificial intelligence and prediction markets, and it framed possible crypto topics around areas where regulatory action could complement future legislation.
Cointelegraph notes the CFTC announcement follows a similar SEC notice for a meeting scheduled for Friday, with an agenda focused on crafting new rules for a tailored offering regime for certain investment contracts involving crypto assets.
The CFTC also said it would support Congress' efforts to pass the market structure bill, while continuing to work within its authority until a law is enacted, and the report points out Michael Selig remains the only Senate confirmed commissioner and chair.
