Dollar holds steady as Goolsbee points to shocks fading
Goolsbee said tariff, oil, and other shocks are expected to fade as a one time boost to inflation, supporting a path toward the Fed’s 2% goal.
Chicago Fed President Austan Goolsbee said the disinflation process is evolving and that many inflation drivers have been tied to tariffs, oil, and other shocks that are expected to create a one time increase, according to remarks carried by FXStreet.
Goolsbee, a voter until 2027, added that if those shocks can be left behind, inflation can move toward the Federal Reserve’s 2% goal.
In FX markets late in the North American session, FXStreet reported the US dollar was steady overall, with USD strongest versus the New Zealand dollar among listed major currencies, while major currency moves were mapped against a heat map of daily percentage changes.
FXStreet also noted positioning around the Federal Reserve rate path, with September Fed hike expectations subdued, and highlighted upcoming data drivers including revised GDP figures for Euroland, US retail sales, and the University of Michigan preliminary gauge.
