Aspen integration drives Sompo International’s reinsurance revenue higher
Sompo International said Global Reinsurance generated a discounted combined ratio of 77.1% in 1Q 2026, a 1.8 point rise versus the prior year, even as reinsurance revenue nearly doubled to $1.55 billion.
Sompo International reported a sharp jump in its Global Reinsurance revenue for 1Q 2026, driven largely by the ongoing integration of Aspen, the insurer said. The reinsurance segment produced $1.55 billion in revenue, up 91.8% from $810 million in the same period of 2025.
The company attributed the top line expansion to both the Aspen integration and strong casualty line renewals. Despite the faster portfolio growth, underwriting profitability in Global Reinsurance remained robust, with a discounted combined ratio of 77.1% for the quarter, up 1.8 percentage points from 75.2% in 1Q 2025.
Sompo International also reported broader business gains in 1Q 2026. Total insurance revenue rose 42.4% year on year to $5.55 billion, while adjusted profit increased to $423 million, up $51 million year on year and tracking at 24% toward a $1.74 billion full-year target.
Results across other divisions were mixed, with Commercial Insurance revenue up 31.2% year on year to $3.63 billion, supported by Aspen in casualty and professional lines and expansion in agriculture. Consumer Insurance revenue climbed 13.4% to $363 million, but its underwriting profitability deteriorated as inflation pressured claims in Turkey Motor, pushing the combined ratio up 20.6 points to 117.9%.
