Hyperliquid ETH long near liquidation as Bored Ape sales pile up
A public Hyperliquid snapshot showed a 2,500 ETH long at 25x leverage with an indicative liquidation gap of about $22.5 from the ETH midpoint, after the position was cut by roughly 52.5% versus a July baseline.
Crypto monitoring firm Lookonchain linked multiple Bored Ape token sales to changes in a leveraged Ethereum position it tracks as “Machi Big Brother,” showing the long shrinking while the risk buffer narrowed. According to the public Hyperliquid Info API data cited by CryptoSlate, an address labeled by Etherscan as machibigbrother.eth held a 2,500 ETH long with displayed 25x leverage, paired with a liquidation price of $1,859.15. Shortly after, the ETH midpoint at the venue was $1,881.65, leaving an indicative gap of $22.50, or about 1.2% above the reported liquidation level at that moment. The same snapshot indicated the position was 52.51% smaller than a previously reported 5,264 ETH long that Lookonchain cited from July 14, with the liquidation price also moving higher, $102.39 above the earlier $1,756.76 level. CryptoSlate also reported that Hyperliquid fill data corresponded to three July 31 close-long groups, totaling 1,708 ETH closed, with aggregate negative closed PnL of about $96,301. CryptoSlate further noted Lookonchain’s claims about the related Bored Ape sales and the losses, including Bored Ape #251 sold at a 6.99 ETH loss on July 14, Bored Ape #5670 sold for 9 ETH after an 84.99 ETH purchase (an 89.4% ETH terms loss), and Bored Ape #5715 sold for 8.3 ETH after a 34.17 ETH purchase. The outlet added that while the public data supports the size, timing, and losses of the closures, the explorers do not show a direct path from sale proceeds into margin, and person-level control details are outside what the on-chain evidence can confirm.
