India mutual fund assets hit ₹85.76 lakh crore as equity inflows surge

Assets rose by ₹9.65 lakh crore from July 2025 to July 2026, and equity schemes grew to ₹37.92 lakh crore over the same period, according to AMFI data cited by LiveMint.

India’s mutual fund industry expanded to ₹85.76 lakh crore by July 2026, supported by heavy inflows into equities and a shift by retail investors away from traditional bank deposits, LiveMint Markets reported, citing data from the Association of Mutual Funds in India, AMFI.

The industry added ₹50.45 lakh crore in roughly five years, rising from ₹35.31 lakh crore, and it grew from ₹75.35 lakh crore in July 2025 to cross the ₹85 lakh crore mark for the first time last month, LiveMint Markets said. The report attributed much of the momentum to millennials adopting stock market exposure through mutual funds, often via systematic investment plans.

Equity funds remain the key driver, with assets increasing to ₹37.92 lakh crore in July 2026 from ₹33.47 lakh crore a year earlier. Among 11 equity categories, small-cap and flexi-cap funds together rose 21.0% year over year to ₹10.29 lakh crore, the outlet added.

Beyond equities, investors also increased allocations to debt funds, which recorded net inflows of ₹1.88 lakh crore in July 2026, lifting total debt-fund AUM to ₹19.33 lakh crore. Gold ETFs also gained attention, with assets more than doubling to ₹1.73 lakh crore, LiveMint Markets reported.
