Mark Cuban warns wealthy investors against low-barrier businesses

Cuban argues that easy-to-enter ventures like restaurants, clothing labels, and liquor businesses can draw heavy competition, eroding profitability.

Billionaire investor Mark Cuban said how people invest sudden wealth can determine whether that wealth lasts, offering advice during an appearance on Shannon Sharpe's Club Shay Shay podcast, according to Yahoo Finance.

Cuban urged investors not to put money into businesses such as restaurants, clothing brands, liquor companies, or music ventures, characterizing that type of investing as a form of "death."

He said the core issue is that some opportunities have low barriers to entry, meaning they require less specialized expertise or licensing, so many competitors can enter and reduce pricing power.

Yahoo Finance also notes that launching clothing lines or restaurants can require minimal investment, and it cites the idea that competition can limit profitability, referencing a profitability figure for full-service restaurants as an example.
