AMD, Intel and Nvidia climb after Super Micro’s AI demand surge

Super Micro said it added more than $60 billion in new orders in its fiscal fourth quarter, and that momentum lifted major logic-chip makers on Aug. 12.

Major logic-chip names including AMD, Intel, and Nvidia jumped after Super Micro Computer’s latest results signaled strong AI infrastructure spending across the server supply chain, Yahoo Finance reports. On Aug. 12, AMD closed up 1.8% at $483, Intel gained 3.3% to $101, and Nvidia rose 3% to $224. The rally was driven not by fresh company-specific news from the three chipmakers, but by Super Micro’s fiscal fourth-quarter update released Aug. 11. Super Micro posted non-GAAP earnings per share of $1.70, up 139% versus roughly $0.71 expected, while revenue of $11.12 billion fell just short of expectations. The key read-through for the sector was Super Micro’s order book. The company reported receiving more than $60 billion in new orders during the quarter, more than 50% higher than $39 billion reported just six weeks earlier, and it also raised its non-GAAP gross margin to 17.6% from a previously forecast 8.2% to 8.4%, citing a better mix of customers and products. That order surge had spillover implications for companies supplying AI components into Super Micro’s servers. Yahoo Finance notes that it served as an independent data point for Nvidia’s continuing chip demand ahead of Nvidia’s upcoming fiscal second-quarter report, and it highlighted competitive momentum for AMD amid contracts for GPU deployment orders, including up to 2 gigawatts of MI450 accelerator capacity for Anthropic.
