NYC awards $8.4M for business district improvements citywide
The program is positioned as the largest single cash infusion for business improvement districts, targeting upgrades meant to raise foot traffic for 20,000 businesses across the five boroughs.
Mayor Zohran Mamdani and the New York City Department of Small Business Services are making $8.4 million available to business improvement districts for public art displays, street cleaning, lighting, and directories, according to Commercial Observer.
The administration said the funding is meant to increase foot traffic for 20,000 businesses in the five boroughs and called it the largest single cash infusion of its kind.
Commercial Observer reports the grants have already been awarded, with Brooklyn receiving the majority, $2.7 million for 32 organizations.
The Bronx received $1.55 million for 17 entities, Manhattan and Queens received similar amounts, and Staten Island got the least, $550,000 for seven organizations, the outlet said.
