Orbital Sentry closes pre-seed to expand persistent wildfire monitoring in space

The funding is intended to accelerate continuous, high-sensitivity infrared tracking that Orbital Sentry says can improve wildfire intelligence for insurers and catastrophe modeling.

Orbital Sentry, a deep-tech startup developing persistent infrared imaging systems in geosynchronous orbit, has closed a pre-seed funding round led by Ridgeline with participation from Superorganism and Hustle Fund, the company said.

The new capital is set to support the next phase of growth, focused on accelerating continuous satellite monitoring for wildfire risk and national security uses. Orbital Sentry said its approach is designed to address limitations of legacy systems that depend on intermittent point-in-time data.

The company said its technology aims to deliver real-time intelligence to help bridge what it describes as an operational gap for insurers, including earlier and more precise fire detection. For climate and environmental safety, it said the system is intended to enable faster fire detection and improved validation for catastrophe models.

For national security, Orbital Sentry said persistent infrared tracking can provide real-time alerts for missile launches and enhanced battlefield awareness. Reinsurance News reported the company is also building relationships with insurers, reinsurers, and utilities and plans to fund initial development of its imaging sensor and expansion of early commercial and government partnerships.
