Shipping in the Strait of Hormuz drops ahead of U.S.-Iran ceasefire expiry

Traffic sank to a new low as the U.S.-Iran ceasefire is set to expire on Monday without a deal in sight.

Shipping activity in the Strait of Hormuz has fallen to a new low as a U.S.-Iran ceasefire approaches its expiry on Monday, with no agreement yet reached, CNBC reported.

The reports said the reduced traffic comes amid heightened uncertainty in the region, with tensions also reflected in U.S. President Donald Trump threatening to strike Oman if it were to interfere.

CNBC added that the lack of a deal to extend the ceasefire has contributed to the sharp drop in shipping traffic through a key chokepoint for global energy flows.
