Thiel’s Macro hedge fund buys about $76m stake in Vista
The SEC filing cited by Reuters shows the purchase was about 1.2 million American Depositary Shares, around 1% of Vista’s outstanding capital.
Peter Thiel’s Macro hedge fund has acquired a roughly $76 million position in Argentine oil producer Vista, according to a report citing a US Securities and Exchange Commission filing.
The filing shows the fund bought about 1.2 million American Depositary Shares, a stake worth about 1% of the company’s outstanding capital, giving Macro a slice of Vista’s role in Argentina’s Vaca Muerta shale basin.
Reuters also said the investment adds Argentine energy exposure to a portfolio that includes technology, electricity and broader energy-related businesses. The cited filing put Thiel Macro’s disclosed portfolio value at about $418.7 million.
The report noted that Thiel has taken a growing interest in Argentina and met President Javier Milei in April, with the pair discussing economic policy and Milei’s stance against wealth taxes. It also highlighted other disclosed holdings in US power and energy infrastructure, including American Electric Power, DTE Energy, FirstEnergy, CMS Energy and nuclear-energy company X-Energy.
