Balyasny hires Daniel Chen to bolster its credit capabilities

Chen spent 26 years at BlackRock, most recently overseeing the firm’s global corporate bond fund, before joining Balyasny in New York.

Balyasny Asset Management has hired Daniel Chen, a former co-head of BlackRock’s US investment-grade platform, as a portfolio manager in New York, aiming to add senior credit expertise to its multi-strategy investment operation, according to Hedgeweek via eFinancial Careers.

Hedgeweek reports that Chen spent 26 years at BlackRock, joining in 1999 after graduating from the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School, and later completing an MBA at NYU Stern.

In 2023, Chen took on a leading role overseeing BlackRock’s global corporate bond fund, before leaving the firm in January 2026 and joining Balyasny, according to his professional profile.

Hedgeweek added that Balyasny did not comment on the appointment, and that its fixed-income operation is led by Steve Goldberg and Nilson Kocher, both with backgrounds in macro investing.
