BMO adds research director role to expand hedge fund platform

The role is aimed at strengthening manager selection and due diligence for BMO Wealth Management’s third-party hedge fund offering, which oversees about $1.08tn in assets.

BMO Financial Group is expanding its hedge fund capabilities with a search for a research director who will oversee manager selection and due diligence across the bank’s third-party hedge fund platform, according to Hedgeweek, citing CityWire.

The position, based in BMO Wealth Management, is designed to help shape the firm’s hedge fund platform strategy by identifying potential funds and investment strategies, and by evaluating them using both qualitative and quantitative criteria covering areas such as investment approach, management teams, risk controls and performance.

The research director will also monitor existing managers to ensure they remain aligned with their stated strategies and risk parameters, and will take on client-facing duties that include input into portfolio construction and strategy discussions as well as participation in client meetings.

Hedgeweek notes that the hiring comes as BMO continues to expand its alternatives offering, with the group currently overseeing about $1.08tn, or CAD 1.5tn, in assets.
