Disney and ABC sue to block FCC early renewal process
The network argues the FCC is being pressured to renew broadcast licenses years early, and says the commission has not called for such early renewal in over 50 years.
Disney and ABC have filed a lawsuit seeking to stop the Trump administration and the Federal Communications Commission from starting an early broadcast license renewal process, the BBC reports.
The companies argue they are being targeted over editorial content, calling the move a retaliatory effort. They say the FCC is being pressured to renew broadcast licenses years early, a step they describe as unprecedented.
Disney and its eight owned-and-operated TV stations are plaintiffs in the case filed Tuesday against the FCC and its chairman, Brendan Carr.
The lawsuit says the push is tied to complaints associated with President Donald Trump, including social media posts criticizing ABC coverage and suggesting the licenses should be terminated. The FCC has given ABC and Disney 30 days to file applications, according to the report.
