Kraken launches direct trading in more than 7,000 U.S. stocks in Europe

The exchange says the offering will be available to customers across the European Economic Area, alongside tokenized versions of some of the same shares.

Kraken said it is expanding its platform for European customers by adding direct trading in more than 7,000 U.S.-listed stocks, while also making tokenized versions of some of those assets available side-by-side. The exchange described the change as a way to narrow the divide between traditional and tokenized formats of the same underlying exposure.

According to CoinDesk, Kraken is positioning itself as the only crypto-native trading platform that offers both regular and tokenized versions of some of the same shares. The update also puts it in closer competition with traditional brokers and trading platforms, including Interactive Brokers and eToro, as well as other crypto firms that have moved into stock products in Europe.

CoinDesk reported that the broader trend includes crypto exchanges adding equity trading while traditional stock platforms adopt crypto-related practices. Examples cited include Crypto.com and Robinhood offering tokenized stocks in Europe, and Bitpanda offering regular U.S. stocks rather than tokenized ones.

Kraken attributed the push to customer demand for so-called super app platforms that bring multiple asset types together in one place. In remarks carried by CoinDesk, Mark Greenberg, Kraken parent Payward’s chief commercial officer, said customers can choose how they access the same underlying exposure without moving capital or changing platforms.
