QBE names Jamie Thompson global director of data centers
The newly created role is designed to unify QBE’s underwriting, risk engineering, claims, and distribution for full data center lifecycle coverage as capacity is expected to double between 2026 and 2030.
QBE has appointed Jamie Thompson as global director of data centers, a newly created role intended to develop an integrated insurance proposition for the sector. Based in London, Thompson will draw together QBE’s underwriting, risk engineering, claims, and distribution capabilities to address data center risks across the full data lifecycle, with the aim of closing coverage gaps tied to increasingly interconnected risks.
The insurer said global data center capacity is expected to double between 2026 and 2030, driven by cloud migration and AI adoption. QBE estimated the expansion could require as much as $3 trillion in infrastructure investment by 2030.
In addition to the data center appointment, QBE expanded its motor insurance team with three appointments. The underwriting platform was developed with broker partners and is expected to continue evolving based on broker feedback, and QBE also partnered with Aurora to launch embedded algorithmic underwriting that cuts quote-to-bind for complex yacht risks to under 10 minutes from days, according to the company.
