Trump regulators brace for crypto rulemaking as Congress stalls bill
The SEC is preparing a rule on whether some token offerings can be exempted from securities rules, while the CFTC plans a crypto regulation discussion this week.
Insurance Journal reports that sweeping U.S. crypto legislation has stalled, leaving President Donald Trump’s regulators to step in as the industry seeks clearer rules.
The outlet says the SEC is working on a rule to exempt certain token offerings from securities rules, and that it is expected to advance in the coming weeks.
On the CFTC side, Insurance Journal reports the agency will discuss crypto regulation, among other issues, at an industry gathering this week.
Industry experts cited by Insurance Journal said only Congress can create a lasting framework, warning that without legislation, regulatory changes could be vulnerable to political shifts and court challenges, including the risk of a future administration taking a tougher stance toward crypto issuers.
