Indonesia seizes 2.6 tonnes of liquid meth on Tanzanian-flagged ship
Indonesian authorities also found more than 1.5 million illegal cigarettes during the interception near Bengkalis in Riau province.
Indonesia seized 2.6 tonnes of liquid methamphetamine on a Tanzanian-flagged vessel in one of the country's biggest drug busts, arresting 10 crew members, according to SCMP Economy citing Indonesia's National Narcotics Agency.
The agency said it received intelligence that a ship sailing from Sarawak, Malaysia, through the Andaman Sea may be carrying narcotics to Indonesia. In a joint operation with customs officials, it intercepted the MV Rain Maker, which was reportedly sailing under a fake name, late on Monday near Bengkalis in Riau province.
During the inspection, officials said the meth was stored in eight water barrels and a water tank. They also found more than 1.5 million illegal cigarettes on board, the agency added.
SCMP Economy also noted the seizure was the second raid involving a Tanzanian-flagged vessel in two weeks.
