Iran warns Gulf states against helping the US military after UAE move

The UAE severed economic ties with Tehran after Iran fired two ballistic missiles at vessels off its coast, raising risks around the Strait of Hormuz.

Iranian armed forces warned Gulf countries against assisting the US military on Wednesday, hours after the United Arab Emirates said it was severing economic ties with Tehran following new attacks on shipping, Agence France-Presse reports.

The UAE said on Tuesday that Iran fired two ballistic missiles at vessels off its coast, while the Strait of Hormuz remains a flashpoint where attacks on commercial ships have continued, despite a recent lull in US-Iran hostilities.

The story notes that a framework US-Iran deal intended to reopen the vital trade corridor collapsed, and that while both sides have recently said messages were being exchanged, President Donald Trump said talks were off.

Iranian armed forces chief of staff Ali Abdollahi cautioned that any assistance or facilitation provided to the US military would amount to participation in what he called the US military operation, according to Mehr news agency, cited in the report.
