Cathay Pacific set to relaunch Hong Kong direct flights to Almaty
The planned service would add three weekly flights between Hong Kong and Kazakhstan’s Almaty, using an Airbus A330-300 widebody aircraft.
Qatar Airways has opened a new regional cargo office in Hong Kong, and the event prompted a transport ministry hint about upcoming changes to the city’s passenger air network. Hong Kong Secretary for Transport and Logistics Mable Chan said a local airline would soon announce a relaunch of direct flights to Central Asia, specifically to Almaty, Kazakhstan, to expand Hong Kong’s flight network.
According to the South China Morning Post, Cathay Pacific Airways is expected to be the carrier behind the announcement. Chan said the Hong Kong government will continue to develop air service ties with global partners with priority focus on regions that include Central Asia, among others.
The report also notes that Cathay Pacific previously said it planned to relaunch the route in the first quarter of next year. The service would include three flights a week, operated by an Airbus A330-300 widebody aircraft.
