Tech stocks lift S&P 500 and Nasdaq 100 futures as AI demand bets rise

September S&P 500 E-mini futures were up 0.1% and September Nasdaq 100 E-mini futures gained 0.5% ahead of Fed minutes and retail earnings, while oil jumped on renewed Middle East and Hormuz shipping risks.

U.S. stock index futures were set to open higher as investors rotated into technology stocks, citing fresh signs of sustained AI demand. Yahoo Finance said September S&P 500 E-mini futures were up 0.1% and September Nasdaq 100 E-mini futures rose 0.5% at the start of the week.

Chip and AI infrastructure names led gains in pre-market trading after Anthropic PBC showed strong quarterly momentum. Yahoo Finance reported that Bloomberg said Anthropic told prospective investors its Q2 revenue surged at least 14-fold year over year and that documents seen by Bloomberg indicated positive adjusted operating income in Q2.

Additional support for the tech complex came from U.S. chip supply chain comments. Yahoo Finance said Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick told The Wall Street Journal that the Trump administration does not want Apple to buy memory chips from China.

Broader upside in futures was tempered by higher energy prices tied to renewed security concerns in the Middle East. Yahoo Finance linked oil strength to fighting in Lebanon and attacks on vessels in the Strait of Hormuz, while negotiations between Iran and the U.S. appeared to have stalled, and markets also looked ahead to Federal Reserve meeting minutes, new U.S. economic data, and retail earnings.
