California honors 100 insurance professionals under 40 as risks mount

The state’s risk environment includes an estimated $40 billion in insured losses from January 2025 Los Angeles wildfires, according to Munich Re figures.

California has named 100 insurance professionals under age 40 in its InsuranceFest NextGen California 2026 list, highlighting how early-career brokers and underwriters are handling complex, high-exposure risks, Insurance Business America reports.

The outlet points to California’s volatile claims backdrop, including an estimated $40 billion in insured losses from January 2025 wildfires across Los Angeles, the costliest natural disaster of 2025 per Munich Re’s natural catastrophe figures for 2025.

According to the report, California’s wildfire claims have topped $22 billion in payments to date, with the state’s FAIR Plan absorbing a significant share as private insurers pulled back from high-risk areas.

Insurance Business America also links the talent pipeline pressure to California’s concentration of technology companies and film and television activity, citing data on cyber exposure and more than $27 billion in economic activity since 2009 from the state’s Film and Television Tax Credit Program announcement ahead of the July 16, 2026 event.
