Ukrainian drone attack sparks fire at Rosneft-linked Bashkortostan refinery
The fire was reported at a refinery in Ufa, an area hosting three Bashneft refineries, after Ukraine targeted Russian energy infrastructure to constrain fuel supply.
Ukraine hit a refinery in Russia’s Bashkortostan region overnight with a drone strike that sparked a fire, continuing efforts to disrupt Russian energy infrastructure, OilPrice reported.
The attack reached a refinery in Ufa, where the region’s governor Radiy Khabirov said the blaze started. Ufa and the surrounding area host three refineries, all owned and operated by Bashneft, a unit of Rosneft.
For months, Ukraine has conducted near-daily drone attacks on Russian oil refineries, aiming to force political negotiations while crippling fuel supplies to the frontline and domestic gas stations, according to OilPrice.
The report also noted that last week Ukraine attacked Ust-Luga, Russia’s top export port for oil and other commodities from the Baltic Sea, and referenced earlier drone activity there earlier in July. It added that Russia’s diesel and gasoil exports fell to 80,000 barrels per day in the first seven days of August, the lowest in many years, as Moscow extended restrictions on diesel exports amid a fuel crisis tied to continued Ukrainian attacks.
