Unitree Robotics shares surge more than 600% in Shanghai debut
Unitree opened at 1,100 yuan, well above its 150.8 yuan offer price, and says it shipped more than 5,500 humanoid robots last year.
Unitree Robotics, described as the world’s biggest humanoid robot maker, made its stock market debut in Shanghai on Wednesday, with shares soaring by more than 600%. The company listed on the tech-focused Star Market, widely seen as China’s Nasdaq.
In the IPO, Unitree shares opened at 1,100 yuan, substantially above the 150.8 yuan offer price. The listing is positioned as a milestone for Beijing’s robotics push as the US and China compete for leadership in robots and the AI systems that power them.
The BBC reports that Unitree has shipped more than 5,500 humanoid robots last year as demand grows. It is also among the few players in the sector that has been profitable, reporting net profit of 278 million yuan in 2025.
The company is based in Hangzhou, in eastern China, a region linked with a robotics “golden cluster” of firms boosted by government investment, according to China Daily. Robots are also viewed as a potential answer to labor shortages tied to China’s ageing population, with Beijing calling the robotics sector a strategic priority for advanced technology leadership, BBC Business writes.
