US stock futures hold mixed as oil pressures sentiment amid Iran risk
S&P 500 futures were near 7,710 while traders looked ahead to the Federal Reserve’s July meeting minutes after crude prices and geopolitical supply concerns rattled equities.
US stock index futures were mixed in European hours on Wednesday, with Dow Jones futures up 0.06% to around 53,440, S&P 500 futures steady near 7,710, and Nasdaq 100 futures edging 0.03% lower to about 29,580, according to FXStreet.
Sentiment remained cautious as higher crude oil prices added pressure and geopolitical friction between the US and Iran sustained concerns over global supply. US President Donald Trump said the naval blockade remains in effect and that there are currently no active negotiations with Tehran, with shipping risks described as still elevated despite claims that the waterway is open and mines have been cleared.
FXStreet added that the recent equity slide followed a third straight down session on Tuesday, when the Dow Jones fell 0.22%, the S&P 500 declined 0.69%, and the Nasdaq Composite dropped 1.33%. Rising bond yields and firmer oil prices weighed on broader sentiment, and FXStreet noted that the 30-year Treasury yield reached a 19-year high this week before reversing lower.
Deutsche Bank analysts highlighted the session’s broader “stagflationary backdrop” and pointed to heavy selling in semiconductor and technology stocks, with AI-linked chipmakers seeing steep losses. FXStreet said the Philly semiconductor index fell 4.98% on Tuesday, and that investors were watching the upcoming release of the Federal Reserve’s July meeting minutes for further direction.
