US stock futures stall after Trump pauses Canada tariff deadline

Markets were also pulled lower by rising bond yields and higher oil prices, with Japan and South Korea declining overnight.

US stock futures were mixed to flat on Wednesday after President Trump paused tariffs on Canadian goods that were scheduled to take effect at midnight, leaving the Dow Jones Industrial Average and S&P 500 futures hovering near the flat line while Nasdaq-100 futures edged higher, Yahoo Finance reported.

The tariff pause followed 11th-hour talks between Trump officials and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney's team, and investors are watching the move as a signal for upcoming negotiations under the US-Mexico-Canada Trade Agreement (USMCA).

Yahoo Finance also cited a broader drag on equities, noting that US stocks were managing a losing week as rising bond yields and oil prices weighed on major indexes, alongside a tech sell-off on Tuesday.

Traders are set to turn to the Federal Reserve, with FOMC July meeting minutes due later Tuesday, and they will also watch earnings from Target, Lowe's, and TJX Companies for signals on consumer trends.
