Wyoming moves FRNT stablecoin from LayerZero to Chainlink CCIP
The Wyoming Stable Token Commission completed the migration, plans to fully deprecate its LayerZero implementation, and signed a multi-year contract for Chainlink CCIP as FRNT’s exclusive cross-chain infrastructure.
Wyoming’s Stable Token Commission has moved its Frontier Stable Token, FRNT, from LayerZero to Chainlink’s Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol, citing an extensive security review, according to CoinDesk. The commission says the migration has been completed and that it will fully deprecate its LayerZero token implementation.
CoinDesk reports the move is notable as the first time a U.S. government entity has publicly replaced its blockchain infrastructure on security grounds. The token will use Chainlink CCIP as its exclusive cross-chain infrastructure under a multi-year contract.
The announcement also adds to a broader shift away from LayerZero, with CoinDesk citing nearly $15 billion migrating from LayerZero to Chainlink CCIP. The outlet notes that the initial exodus followed security incidents tied to a LayerZero-powered bridge, including an attack on Kelp DAO where rsETH was stolen.
CoinDesk adds that FRNT has a market capitalization below $1 million and is the only fully reserved, fiat-backed stablecoin issued by a U.S. public entity. Reserve income from FRNT supports Wyoming’s School Foundation Program, and the token is available on multiple blockchains including Ethereum Base and Avalanche.
