Bernard Matthews to close Derby factory by end of 2026

The company cited continued significant financial losses and external pressures including Brexit, Covid, and conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East.

BBC Business reports Bernard Matthews Foods confirmed it will close its processing facility in Derby, shutting the Shaftesbury Street South site by the end of 2026.

The company said the decision follows consultations with employee and union representatives, and pointed to its financial situation being driven by external economic challenges.

In a statement, Bernard Matthews said the closure reflects continued significant financial losses plus a range of external pressures, including Brexit, the Covid-19 period, and conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East that it said have affected the Derby site and its supply chain.

Bernard Matthews said it still runs processing and production sites in Sunderland and Holton, Suffolk, and the company previously announced plans to close a plant at its Great Witchingham headquarters two years earlier.
