Billionaires boost Taiwan Semiconductor as AI chip demand stays strong
Latest 13F filings show TSM added to hundreds of hedge fund portfolios, with guidance pointing to roughly 37% year over year revenue growth at the midpoint and gross margins of 65% to 67%.
Taiwan Semiconductor (NYSE: TSM) has remained a high-conviction AI chip holding for major investors, with the latest second-quarter 13F data showing TSM in 250 hedge fund portfolios, up from 236 in the first quarter, according to Yahoo Finance. Fisher Asset Management, led by Ken Fisher, was the largest holder in the dataset, with 18,866,198 shares worth $9,009,930,721, or 2.68% of its portfolio. Coatue Management trimmed its stake, holding 8,914,995 shares worth $4,257,534,162, or 8.76% of its portfolio after cutting by 4%, while ARK Investment Management reduced its position by 24% to 482,286 shares worth $230,325,325, or 1.5% of its portfolio. The article also highlights performance and profitability drivers cited for TSM, including a 36% year-over-year jump in revenue in the most recent quarter and a 77% surge in net income. Yahoo Finance attributes strong margins to largely fixed fab costs, plus incremental gains from converting N5 tooling to N3 production and limited competition below 5nm, which it says supports leading-edge pricing power. For outlook, TSMC third-quarter revenue guidance implies about 37% year-over-year growth at the midpoint, while gross margin guidance is 65% to 67%, the outlet said. It was also recently reported that TSMC plans to raise prices on both advanced and mature node chips by up to 10% by 2027.
