Reddit to join the S&P 500, replacing AvalonBay Communities
S&P Dow Jones Indices set the change for before Tuesday’s open on Aug. 18, and the announcement drove an 11% after-hours jump in RDDT shares.
Reddit will replace AvalonBay Communities in the S&P 500 Index, with the change effective prior to the opening of trading on Tuesday, Aug. 18, according to S&P Dow Jones Indices as covered by Yahoo Finance.
The inclusion is described as a milestone for Reddit, which is expected to benefit from the index's passive investing flows that typically follow S&P 500 additions.
At the time of the announcement, RDDT was trading around $153.45 and was down about 31% year to date, the outlet said, noting it had an 11% after-hours surge after the news broke.
Yahoo Finance also said the S&P 500 has been rising strongly in 2026, with the index up nearly 14% and record net profit margins of 16% cited for S&P 500 companies.
