Concentra appoints Jill Rosenthal as chief medical officer
Rosenthal, who joins on Sept. 1, succeeds John Anderson as chief medical officer on Jan. 1, 2027.
Concentra has named Jill Rosenthal, MD, MPH, as its new chief medical officer, with plans for her to join the company on September 1 and assume the CMO role on January 1, 2027, succeeding John Anderson, who will retire after 33 years with Concentra. Insurance Business reports that Rosenthal spent more than 16 years on the payer side as chief medical officer at Zenith Insurance Company, where she led medical strategy and quality initiatives for employers and injured workers, and she previously served as an area medical director before returning to the organization. She also currently serves as 2026 president of the American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine. The appointment reflects a broader shift in workforce health services toward dedicated physician leadership, a trend noted by Insurance Business, including Arthur J. Gallagher’s earlier creation of a chief medical officer role for its US Benefits division and appointment of Christine Hale. Insurance Business ties the demand for clinical leadership to what is happening inside workers’ compensation claims, citing Enlyte’s 2026 Envision Trends Report. It says claim frequency has stayed flat to declining nationally, while medical severity has risen, including a 9.5% increase in allowed medical costs per claimant from 2022 to 2025 to $4,398, and a 12.3% rise in services billed per claimant over the same period. The report attributes the increase to greater service density and says behavioral health involvement has grown 15.3% since 2022, adding about 10% to overall claim severity.
