Poll finds majority of Americans oppose Trump family earning from crypto

Reuters and Ipsos found 63% of 1,166 respondents said the Trump family earning from crypto while in office is not appropriate, with Republicans and Democrats split sharply.

A new US poll found most Americans do not view it as appropriate for President Donald Trump and his family to earn money through cryptocurrency investments while he is in office, according to results from Reuters and Ipsos. The survey of 1,166 people was conducted Aug. 14 to 17, and 63% of respondents said it was not appropriate for Trump and his family to earn through crypto investments while in office. The responses varied sharply by party, with 69% of Republicans saying it was appropriate, while 92% of Democrats said it was not. The poll comes after a June report from the US Office of Government Ethics disclosed that Trump earned $1.4 billion from investments related to crypto in 2025, including through his family’s World Liberty Financial company and his memecoin, Official Trump (TRUMP). The White House spokesperson Anna Kelly has said there were no conflicts of interest. Lawmakers have called for investigations and more information about the World Liberty Financial and Trump family investments. Separately, Trump spoke about crypto at a White House press conference and pushed the Senate to pass the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act, which is expected to clarify regulatory roles for digital assets, with a cloture vote scheduled for Sept. 15.
