Iran warns Gulf states as UAE suspends economic ties with Tehran
Iran says it is tracking U.S. aircraft operating from regional bases, while the U.S. plans to unveil new sanctions on Monday.
Iran has warned Gulf states that supporting U.S. military operations could make them participants in a wider conflict, as the United Arab Emirates cuts economic ties with Tehran, OilPrice reported.
According to the outlet, Abu Dhabi suspended all trade, commercial exchanges and financial transactions with Iran on Tuesday after accusing Tehran of firing two ballistic missiles toward vessels off the Emirati coast. Iran denied the accusation, OilPrice added.
OilPrice also said Iran is monitoring U.S. aircraft flying from regional bases and that U.S. President Donald Trump has threatened “tremendous” economic consequences for any country whose banks, businesses, airports or government entities provide Iran with any type of lifeline.
The outlet further noted that the U.S. is set to announce tough sanctions on Monday, with China targeted as the biggest buyer of Iran’s seaborne oil, and that U.S. logistics have increasingly relied on Diego Garcia after Iran struck U.S. facilities in Bahrain.
