Trump-Mula call highlights trade and tariff focus between US and Brazil

Trump also announced a 90-day expansion of the amount of beef entering the US without the out-of-quota tariff, adding urgency to tariff talks discussed on the call.

Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and US President Donald Trump held a phone call on Friday, with trade and tariffs among the topics, according to the Brazilian government as cited by Forexlive.

Forexlive said the call came at an especially notable time because Trump separately announced an increase for 90 days in the volume of beef that can enter the US without the normal out-of-quota tariff, as the administration seeks to boost supplies and reduce elevated beef and hamburger prices.

The article notes Brazil is among the world's largest beef exporters and already supplies significant amounts to the United States, with imported lean beef used to blend with fattier domestic beef in ground beef production.

Forexlive added that while it is not confirmed the beef initiative was directly connected to the Lula-Trump call, the combination of Brazil pushing for tariff negotiations and the US facing tight cattle supply makes Brazil a key country to watch as details of the beef plan and any tariff changes emerge.
