Ex-HUD Philly leader joins Upper Darby planning commission
Robert Ford previously led HUD’s Philadelphia field office overseeing 38 counties, and he left in part after a reclassification to Schedule F raised the risk of losing retirement benefits.
Robert Ford, a former top Housing and Urban Development official for the Philadelphia region, has been appointed to serve on the Planning Commission for Upper Darby, a municipality bordering Philadelphia, according to Bisnow.
Ford spent nearly a quarter century at HUD, starting before finishing college and eventually becoming field office director for the agency’s Philadelphia office, which oversees operations across 38 counties in eastern Pennsylvania.
Bisnow reports that Ford left the agency during the early days of the second Trump administration after conditions changed for federal workers, including a deferred resignation program and a move that resulted in his position being reclassified to Schedule F, which he said made him easier to fire.
After departing, Ford spent time assessing his next steps and then shifted into several roles, including work as a real estate agent and an affordable housing consultant, while also taking on duties as a defensive line coach for West Chester University.
