Hong Kong malls turn Beyblade hobby into mall-wide sales push

Sino Group, which owns Tuen Mun Town Plaza, said tenants are using the shared interest to engage customers and encourage discounts around an August tournament.

A Beyblade comeback is driving foot traffic and retail activity in Hong Kong, with shopping centres converting public areas into free battle zones tied to shopping promotions, according to SCMP Economy. The outlet described spinning “Beystadium” arenas placed across venues, where players can battle and compete for stamps that can be exchanged for shopping vouchers.

SCMP Economy reports the trend has spread beyond a single mall, as local fans who flock to public arenas also scramble to buy hot models and rarer parts. The article says operators see the hobby as a way to attract visitors and retain them by boosting on site engagement rather than relying only on direct sales.

In Hong Kong’s New Territories, Tuen Mun Town Plaza expanded the concept into a mall wide strategy ahead of a major Beyblade tournament in August, encouraging shop operators to participate and offer discounts to shoppers who bring their tops. Sino Group, which owns the shopping centre, said the approach is intended to help tenants engage customers through a shared interest, rather than purely selling products.
