India equity mutual fund assets hit record ₹48.5 lakh crore in July
July equity mutual fund AUM reached ₹48.5 lakh crore, while monthly SIP inflows stayed above ₹30,000 crore for the fifth straight month.
India’s equity mutual fund assets rose to a record ₹48.5 lakh crore in July, reaching 56% of the mutual fund industry’s average assets under management, according to the NSE Market Pulse report for August, as active equity schemes continued to expand.
The report said active equity schemes posted 13.3% year-on-year growth and made up nearly 78% of total equity AUM, with the equity share of the overall mutual fund AAUM also reaching 44%. Within open-ended equity funds, flexi-cap led with 15.6% of assets, followed by thematic funds at 14.6%, mid-cap at 13.6%, and small-cap at 11.5%.
Investor participation via systematic investment plans remained strong, with monthly SIP contributions at ₹31,961 crore in July, staying above ₹30,000 crore for the fifth consecutive month. Cumulative SIP contributions in the first four months of FY27 rose to ₹1.3 lakh crore, up 15.4% year-on-year, and SIP assets crossed ₹18 lakh crore for the first time, reaching ₹18.2 lakh crore in July.
Passive funds also logged a fresh high, with total AAUM rising to ₹15.5 lakh crore, up 23.3% year-on-year, and equity passive funds accounting for nearly 68% of passive assets. In contrast, debt fund AAUM declined 0.4% year-on-year to ₹21.7 lakh crore, driven mainly by a contraction in passive debt funds, while active debt assets remained subdued, LiveMint Markets reported.
