Kalshi barred in Washington as prediction market fight widens
CoinDesk reports Washington state blocked Kalshi customers, joining Michigan and Nevada, while Kalshi argues similar terms allowed Crypto.com to keep operating.
Kalshi has been barred from serving customers in Washington state, according to CoinDesk, extending a broader pattern of state-level restrictions on prediction market platforms. Customers in Washington state, Michigan, and Nevada are currently blocked from using the Kalshi platform as the company pursues legal and regulatory paths for the industry.
CoinDesk reports the Washington ban came after a state court dispute in which authorities accused Kalshi of operating an illegal gambling business. Kalshi then notified customers that the Washington state government had blocked their right to trade freely on the platform.
CoinDesk also notes that Washington’s attorney general said the order bans Kalshi from offering wagers on most of the topics the company had promoted, including sports and elections. At the same time, Kalshi is seeking a reconsideration, arguing that state authorities agreed not to pursue timely enforcement against Crypto.com in an identical context.
Meanwhile, CoinDesk reports the Commodity Futures Trading Commission has continued to engage with prediction market developments, holding an innovation meeting in Washington where the growth of the sector was a central topic. The industry is also dealing with ongoing legal clashes involving Connecticut and New York.
