Ray Dalio urges investors to hold some Bitcoin amid debt-crisis risk

Dalio said he expects a US debt crisis could arrive in about three years, and he framed Bitcoin and gold as lower-risk alternatives to bonds.

HousingWire reports that hedge fund founder Ray Dalio is recommending investors add exposure to gold and “a bit of Bitcoin” as concerns rise about a potential US debt crisis.

In a Friday LinkedIn post, the Bridgewater Associates founder said holding between 10% and 15% of a portfolio in gold could help reduce risk, while positioning gold and Bitcoin as overweight relative to debt assets such as bonds.

Dalio attributed the outlook to risks he associates with “internal political and external geopolitical conflicts,” and he said his guess is a US debt crisis may come in three years, give or take two, if the current course is not changed.

The article also notes that Dalio has previously argued Bitcoin cannot replace gold as a store of value, and he referenced earlier comments from July 2025 when he said he held some, but not much, Bitcoin, and recommended holding up to 15% in the cryptocurrency and gold.
