MANTRA Chain remains paused after attacker exploited upstream dependency

MANTRA said patched release v8.4.0 is being tested on the DuKong testnet before a coordinated mainnet restart.

MANTRA Chain was still halted on Aug. 21 after the project said an attacker exploited a vulnerability in an upstream dependency, leaving transactions, transfers, and staking unavailable while the mainnet remains paused.

In an incident record, MANTRA said it froze endpoints and transactions during its review, and later attributed the precautionary halt to the upstream exploit. The team said it was tracing fund movements, working with exchange partners, and assessing the full scope, though the asset impact of the attacker’s activity remained unconfirmed.

MANTRA said user funds were unaffected by the halt itself and that it took a full network state snapshot before restart processing began. Still, the pause prevents normal onchain processing, with staking operations unavailable and deposits and withdrawals for the token remaining paused on affected venues, according to earlier updates.

The project said patched release v8.4.0 addresses the underlying vulnerability and is undergoing testing and due diligence on the DuKong testnet. MANTRA targeted a coordinated restart later on Aug. 21, with validators required to keep mainnet nodes offline until the project announces the restart so the patched network returns through the wider validator set together.
