Iran’s new security chief warns neighbors against joining US economic war
Mohsen Rezaei said Iran would target oil-shipping routes out of the Gulf and threatened American oil and economic interests if the US escalates economic sanctions.
Iran’s new security chief, Mohsen Rezaei, warned neighbors that joining the United States “economic war” against Tehran would make them a target, according to an interview broadcast on state television.
Rezaei said Iran would target oil-shipping routes out of the Gulf, describing these as alternatives to the strait of Hormuz, if other countries sided with Washington.
He also threatened American economic interests, saying the United States has oil and economic companies around Iran and elsewhere and that Iran would strike them if the US imposed economic sanctions, adding that Iran had not yet attacked any American economic interests.
The Guardian Business notes that the remarks came after Donald Trump announced a new campaign to isolate Iran’s economy, warning of “tremendous economic consequences” for any country that helps or does business with Tehran.
