Canadian dollar slides as Ottawa and Washington move toward trade war

ING strategists said Canada could face outsized losses because it is smaller and more open to global trade than the U.S.

CNBC Markets reports the Canadian dollar is sliding as Ottawa and Washington head toward what strategists describe as an all-out trade war.

ING strategists told CNBC that Canada, as a smaller, more open economy, has more to lose in a trade disruption than the larger U.S. economy.

The outlet said the concern reflects the potential impact of a harsher trade environment on Canada’s trade-linked economic exposure.
