Canadian Pacific Kansas City keeps 36.9% locomotive emissions cut target by 2030
The company said it deferred a Science Based Targets initiative validated 1.5°C-aligned emissions target because an intensity based methodology was not finalized.
Canadian Pacific Kansas City reaffirmed its 36.9% locomotive emissions reduction goal by 2030, according to an investor letter for CP Sustainable Growth Advisers Global Growth Strategy published by Yahoo Finance.
The investor letter also discussed CP’s climate strategy and a proposal on climate related disclosures, including CP’s decision to defer establishing a Science Based Targets initiative validated 1.5°C aligned emissions reduction target. It said ISS Sustainability policy recommended voting against the climate proposal because the company lacked intermediate and long term emissions targets.
CP management told the adviser that the delay was linked to the absence of a finalized intensity based methodology from the SBTi. The letter further notes CP Sustainable Growth Advisers’ view that valuation compression for its portfolio reflected sentiment rather than weaker business quality.
Separately, Yahoo Finance included market context for CP in the investor letter, saying the stock closed at $94.68 on August 24, 2026, and that it had gained 24.17% over the prior 52 weeks. The write up also cited a market capitalization of $83.25 billion.
